Chrysler Repair: 2006 T&C remote fob programming, little bulge, remote keyless entry

Question
QUESTION: I'm very confused about programming a remote for my 2006 town and country.  We have 1 working keyfob (just lock, unlock, alarm) with the key built in.  And I have 1 standalone key with no remote.  My wife carries the keyfob as it's the car she drives mostly, but I drive it once in a while.  And it's really inconvenient to NOT have a keyfob.  Do I have to go to a dealer to get this working?  I want this done for the least money possible, and I'm pretty handy.  Can I program one that I buy off the internet myself if I have one working?  I read about the Sentry functionality, where the key contains a transponder chip and without it the car will stop running after 2-3 seconds.  Do I need to be concerned with that?
Help please

ANSWER: Hi Andy,
If your key is a simple metal key with no plastic bulge in the finger grip (key head), then you don't have a sentry key type of system. That being the case you would want to get a straight remote keyless entry module (fob) that is compatible with your '06 vehicle. It is simple to program a new fob if you have one that is working. Let me know when you get it and we can go from there.
You would do well to avoid anything related to the sentry key immobilizer system if you don't have that feature. It works the way you describe, and one of the signs of it is a loop of metal surrounding the ignition key cylinder. If your key does have anything that looks uncoventional then I would be certain to get a fob which is compatible with the SKIM system.

QUESTION: thanks for the help so far.  I should have stated that my key does have a little bulge in it that's tan colored that says "ilco" on it.  Is that the transponder?

Answer
It does appear that you do have the SKIM system. It is not clear to me if you have to get a key/fob combo like I understand your wife to have, but I suspect so. If you can find that sort of thing, then you would get that, have the key cut to fit the lock, and finally do the self programming of it at which time both the key will be programmed to satisfy the starting function and the remote will be programmed to operate the power locks. . You have to have 2 vaiid keys, which you appear to have.
I am not clear if you can get a separate remote only which can be programmed in the traditional manner without having to also do a key. You could try it and see if you are successful, and if not then do the combo.
