Chrysler Repair: 96 intrepid computer resetting after stalling, check fuse, smog test

Question
'have a 96 intrepid with 3.5 l its the es model. the car shuts off and resets the computer. trying to have it smoged here in california and it shut off during the test and since the computer was reset the smog test cannot be completed. was told i need to drive car 30 to 40 miles so the computer can self check it self and come back and retest. the car does stall on occation but starts right back up and runs fine. as far as the smog test results it is passing but shut down and the test was not complete which makes it inconclusive.'.

Answer
Hi Ryan,
If it shuts off on its own then we have to figure out why. If the computer is resetting then that sounds like the power to it is being disconnected momentarily. That could be due to a loose battery clamp or loose battery ground wire, and check fuse B which is the next the last one in the inner row of fuses in the box under the hood. That one powers the computer and so if it has a subtle crack in its internal wire that opens up spontaneously and then closes, that would do it.  The engine dieing, alone,  should not cause the computer to reset.
Any history to this problem.
How do they know the computer resets? Is it the 12 code that then shows up on a self-readout?
