Chrysler Repair: serpentine belt: 3.5L V-6, chrysler concorde lxi, 2004 chrysler concorde

Question
I have a 2004 Chrysler Concorde LXI with a 3.5 L. What is the correct procedure for changing out the serpentine belt? Can a person do this at home? Is there an easy way?

Answer
Hi Mike,
If you mean the alternator/power steering belt that is done as follows:
Loosen the tensioner pulley locking nut (the one on the axis of the pulley)
Jack up the front enough then remove the two push pins (pry out gently on center 'round' of each pin) attaching lower air shield to engine cradle.
Then loosen tensioner adjusting bolt (located at about 4 o'clock as viewing the pulley from the the frobt) until the belt is loose enough to remove. Then install new belt, tighten the adjuster until the longest 'run' (between the tensioner and the crank pulley) will deflect about 5/16" when the belt is pressed upon with a force of about 10 pounds (use a straight edge to measure deflection). Then reverse steps.
