Chrysler Repair: DTC Code: 0441 and 0700, master brake cylinder, solenoid valve

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2003 Dodge intrepid 2.7 . I have a check engine light with DTC codes P0441 and P0700. What exactly causes these Dodge engine light codes, and how do I fix the problem? What needs to be replaced? I have already replaced the gas cap and this did not fix it

ANSWER: Hi Jack,
The 0700 means there is stored in the transmission controller memory a specific fault code pertaining to the transmission. The way you got this code may have been unable to access that memory so try again, perhaps going to an Autozone parts store for a free readout.
The 0441 involves the gasoline vapor system and it says that there is no air flow through the system. That could be due to the evap purge solenoid leaking or being stuck open, or it could be stuck closed, or the hose from the solenoid to the intake manifold is leaking/disconnected, or similarly the hose from the solenoid to the canister (at the fuel tank), or similarly the hose from the canister to the fuel tank, or the canister itself could be leaking. The evap solenoid is mounted on the fire wall inboard of the master brake cylinder. It has two wires for id purposes (dark green/light green, pink/black). Once you locate it you could check  the two vacuum hose lines that I described, and the hoses to the canister that I described to see if you can find a disconnected or damaged hose. Then you could inspect the solenoid valve itself and see if it is holding a vacuum just as it sits. There are some other observations that are more esoteric so start with these in the hope that you will find the cause.

QUESTION: I should add that once in a while the car will downshift and will not shift back up unless you stop turn off the car and restart then it shifts good again till it does it again

ANSWER: Yes, that would be a symptom of the setting of a specific trans fault code that is designed to shut down the trans relay in response so as to avoid damage.  So you will want to get another readout of the trans controller to find out what is that code.

QUESTION: I am looking for a 2002 dodge intrepid Transmission schematic with wiring. it throws a 700 code and when you let off the gas too fast (all at once) it downshits and wonts shift back untill you shut it down and restart if you drive it like grandmom it doe s it a whole lot less? I was wondering it it has some sort of sensor for the thottle posi that is related to the trans. Also where caan i find the transmissin controller?

Answer
Hi Jack,
The trans controller may be an integral part of the powertrain controller in your '02 (the '04 manual shows a combined unit with 4 38-pin plugs on the left inner fender). If that is not what you see then the '99 manual shows a separate trans unit just in front of the powertrain controller in the same general area on that left inner fender (it would have a single 60-pin plug if that were the case).
If you let me know which you have I can copy the wiring diagram from the appropriate manual. It is about 8 pages and I will send it to you. I would appreciate your sending me back three 44-cent stamps to cover my costs after you get the pages.
As I said earlier, you really need to get a separate code for the specific problem that is causing this behavior. Once you have that we can speak of specific parts to assess. There are 150 pages about the transmission so I would need to select those related to the actual problem. The throttle has a positions sensor mounted in the throttle body which is used for controlling the mixture and other systems and it might have a discontinuity it its variable resistor. You could check that by measuring the resistance between the center pin and either outer pin of its socket while changing the throttle position.
