Chrysler Repair: 00 Sebring wont shift, input sensor fault code, crank sensor, input sensor

Question
QUESTION: hi my name is john, iam working on a 2000 sebring with a 2.5LITER THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT WORKING AND THE CAR STAYS IN 1ST GEAR, I THINK ITS ONE OF THE SPEED SENSORS, I HOOKED IT UP TO MY SNAP ON SCANNER AND I ONLY GET INPUT SENSOR TACH SIGNAL BUT NOTHING ON THE OUT PUT SENSOR, CAN YOU STEER ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. THANK YOU JOHN

ANSWER: Hi John,
It is probably the input speed sensor that is causing the trans not to shift. The critical value is the proper ratio of the input to the output speed sensor signals that the transmission needs to not go into no shift (stays in 2nd actually). So if you have an input sensor fault code that would be the first thing I would change out. The tach signal comes off the crank sensor which has little to do with the input sensor. The speedo is based on the output sensor so that sensor could be an issue, but because both the tach and the speedo are out, it could be the cluster that is causing both those to be missing. So deal with that one later.
Let me know if you have the sedan/coupe/convertible.

QUESTION: hi roland everything on the cluster works except the speedo

Answer
Then that does implicate the output sensor too. Why not buy that first, see if it corrects everything, then cancel the codes by disconnecting the battery, drive it some more and look for fresh codes... if it doesn't. Again, which Sebring body style do you have?
