Chrysler Repair: blower motor works on only three speeds, compressor clutch, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: On my 1993 Plymouth Grand Voyeger Mini Van 3.3 engine is there a fuse for the a/c clutch? I haven't seen one in the fuse box on the interior lower left side and I haven't been able to locate any replaceable fuses under the hood. The only thing I was able to locate was the a/c relays which I have replaced but still can't get clutch to operate. I have plenty of freon. The only way I can get the clutch to engage is to hot wire it direct from the battery or to jump the relay plug-in. Can your please help.
         THANK YOU

ANSWER: Hi Don,
The main current for the compressor clutch is via the gray wire at the relay (which also powers the low speed fan motor, and it also power the compressor clutch relay's actuation coil) and that in turn is powered from the battery via an orange fusible link located in a sheath of such links located behind the battery. There are 2 such orange fusible links so you will need to test both of them to see whether one of them is 'blown'. That explains why you can't find a fuse as such for the clutch. So check to see if you have voltage on the gray wire at the clutch relay and if not then I would believe that the orange fusible I described has blown.

QUESTION: Thank you for your reply it was very helpful but there is still a small problem. I checked the voltage at the relay and it was ok and the fuse links were ok too. I replaced the interior control switch which has a button to press to turn on the a/c and a 4 position fan switch. After replacing the complete control switch the a/c worked and the clutch operated properly. The only thing that doesn't work properly is the fan selector switch. The fan works on 3 out of the four positions. The first low position works ok the second position doesn't work, the third position works fine and the fourth position the highest fan speed works fine also. I checked the relays under the hood and they seem ok. Is there a specific wire that I can trace to correct this or do you think it could still be a relay problem? If only one of the four positions is not working could the problem be in the slide switch within the control switch?
THANK YOU, YOU HAVE BEEN A GREAT HELP

Answer
Hi Don,
The fan speeds are provided by a 'resistor block' which typically fails in such a manner that you only get high speed action. What you described, the failure of the 2nd position only would suggest that the contact for that speed in control switch that you bought is not making good contact, rather than that the resistor block has failed. You can check it out yourself by removing the control and measuring for continuity between pin 4 and pin 7 of the switch when in 2nd speed. The speeds are low/3, second/4, third/5, and high/6 being connected to pin 7. If that proves out, then replacing the resistor block is likely the solution, but the way it works is that if you don't have 2nd, you also shouldn't have low speed either. It is located in the air intake plenum and you get to it under the hood by going to the far end on the passenger side of the plenum where you will see a plug and a couple of screws. Pull the plug and remove the screws and the block will come out of the plenum.
