Chrysler Repair: 04 Sebring starter motor, sebring conv, solenoid switch

Question
QUESTION: I have a 04 chryskler sebring conv. 2.7L.  I have replaced the starter, alternator and battery.  Once it is shut off it wont restart.  It only clicks.  Please let me know if u have any advice

ANSWER: Hi Angie,
By 'click' I assume that you mean the 'loud' click that comes from the starter motor which is the sound of the solenoid switch that connects the battery to the starter motor and should make it go. Usually that solenoid switch is replaced along with the motor but you might find out if that is true. If so, then I would check that the battery cables are clean/shiney/tight connected to the battery. And also check the ground wire from the transmission case to the left strut tower is well connected and tight, and similarly that the ground wire on the - post clamp to the strut tower is well connected at that point.
Also check the condition of the fat red wire from the battery to the starter motor at the  + battery clamp; it might be corroded away. But before you touch that wire disconnect the - post clamp of the battery so as not to short the red wire by accident and get a burn.
If the click is 'soft' in sound and coming from the relay in the power box under the hood, then the problem would be the brown wire from the relay to the solenoid switch at the starter motor is not connected tigtly or is 'open', or the starter relay's internal points are not conducting well. You could try switching that relay with another one in the box under the hood that has the same part number to see if that makes it work, and verify the continuity of the brown wire.
When you have all those new parts that you listed and it doesn't work, then you need to consider the wiring that connects them as the problem.

QUESTION: thanks Roland for ur response so quickly.  My mechanic checked the wires and they are clean and tight.  Is he missing somehting?  He is at a stand still.  Any other ideas?  thank u in advance!!!

Answer
Hi Angie,
You didn't say if the click is loud (from the solenoid switch) or soft (from the starter relay). He may have checked the wires, but I suggested some other issues as well. If soft, is 12V arriving at the solenoid switch on the brown wire when you try the starter? If not, then the problem is the relay or the wire. The brown wire connects the central pin of the starter relay socket to the starter solenoid so that can be checked for continuity.
If its a loud click from the solenoid then either the solenoid switch is bad, the starter motor itself is bad, of the heavy red wire that connects the battery to the starter motor is poorly connecting/conducting, of there is something bad about the ground wires that I listed. Has he tried jumping 12V to where the brown wire attaches at the solenoid and what happens? It could be you have a badly rebuilt starter motor if all the wiring, etc. checks out.
Those are the possibilities, which I believe he should be able to sort out. This is not 'rocket science'. Please rate my answer if you haven't already done so. Thanks
