Chrysler Repair: 01 LHS new battery not starting, first 30 minutes, battery connection

Question
We replaced the battery 2 days ago it ran but now it's dead.  No click at all.  I found an interior light on but I'm not sure if that is the reason or maybe the battery is a little trickier than most since it's mounted farther down.  It stuck in my office parking lot and I'm not sure what to do.

Answer
Hi Kelly,
The interior light could over time drain the battery. So try to correct that or remove the bulb, and similarly look at the glove box light and the trunk light (you may have to get inside to check that but make sure you have a trusted helper to let you out!). The battery drain can be measured easily at the - post remote battery connection on the passenger side strut tower in the engine compartment (hidden under the air inlet tube to the engine,it will be labelled as such). Insert a milliamp meter between the wire that is connected to the post (after you disconnect it) and the post itself and that will give you a reading of what is called the 'ignition off draw' on the battery. It should be less that 100 milliamps, except after for maybe the first 30 minutes after you drive it or you disconnected the battery and reconnect it when it may run higher than that. If you show significant current (over 500 milliamp) then you have something wrong that needs to be corrected or the same discharging thing will happen even after you charge the battery. For now, get jump start and then drive it enough for the alternator to recharge it. Then to be sure you can start it again later, temporarily disconnect the - post remote battery connection which will take the battery out of the circuit and thus avoid discharging. Reconnect it the next time you want to drive. You could also remove the battery and have it recharged with a charger but that involves having a second vehicle to carry the battery to the place where you bought and have them put it on a charger.
So that is what I would do.
