Chrysler Repair: Transmission Range Sensor: no code 0705, ground cables, wire colors

Question
QUESTION: HI Roland.
For the minute there I thought they weren't going to let me ask anymore questions of you. Something about to many questions. But, just a quick note. I'm headed up to my Son's house to check those wires again. They could be Brown/Yellow Might be purple or violet. It's hard to get in that location. Going to try and get some more code readings. Thanks for your time and patients. I have rated you very high and I hope you get the Volunteer of the Month Award.

ANSWER: Thanks, Dan. Starting a 'new question' is the solution to too many follow-ups. More important than the wire colors is whether the pins of the TCM plug show open or grounded when the various positions of the gear shifter are selected, and it would be good also to rectify the back-up lamp circuit.

QUESTION: Hi Roland.
Okay I turned the key on and get the same codes as last time. P1784, P0732, and P1782. I checked all the fuses and they were okay. I wanted to check the fluid in the Transmission, so I started it an ran it for about 15 minutes. The level was okay. I read the codes while running and got these. P1784 and P0403. I turned it off and read it again and got No Codes 3 times. Also while the engine was running the A/C lights on the Dash were flickering. That might be cause the Battery was low charge.
I took some pictures of the wires that were twisted together. I hope this works. I uploaded them to photo bucket.

The wire your looking at are the ones that didn't match up. My Son is coming in for the Gulf tonight so we probably will be going o the Salvage yard soon.

Oh, are the ground cables 2 black wires coming off the engine black at the Dip Stick  Bolt?
Thanks a lot
Dan

Answer
Hi Dan,
The codes (both old and recent) I have discussed in the earlier questions. They could be related to the transmission itself (solenoid pack pressure switches, valve body and valve body bolts loose, plugged filter due to internal trans failure or torque converter failure causing debris; or a defective tcm.
I looked at the wiring photos and it looks like your son did a credible job.
On the question of the range sensor and its plug/wiring, I do note that there is another code, 0705, which you Don't see, and which would be present if there was a problem with the range sensor or its wiring. So it appears that the tcm sees no problems with that sensor/wiring. You can either do the open/ground checks on the 4 pins at the TCM plug that I suggested or not as you choose. But there is no basis in the absence of that 0705 code to believe the range sensor is the problem.
So it would appear to leave you with: something is wrong with the transmission that you got from the salvage yard or a problem with the TCM. If the history of the old trans suggests that its problems were of its own making and not due to a defective TCM then you would have a good basis for arguing that the replacement trans itself is the reason that it won't run power to the wheels. The yard may offer you the use of the TCM from the donor vehicle, which if for free would be OK, and you could try substituting the TCM. Otherwise, I think you have a good basis, from the 1782/1784/0732 codes and the persistent 1784 to say that the transmission has some serious failure and you need to return it for whatever repayment is appropriate.
I wish you weren't faced with installing another transmission, but that may be what lies ahead.
Yes, the engine grounds are to a bolt that appears to also hold the dipsitck bracket, according to my '98 manual
