Chrysler Repair: 97 chrysler sebring lxi: overheating, chrysler sebring lxi, chrysler sebring

Question
2.5 liter motor. Let me start by saying that I am retarded about cars. My sebring has started overheating. I have driven it for a trip that was two hours one way, and it seemed to do fine. I checked all the fluids before I left for there and on the way back home. Today I simply drove it ten blocks before steam started coming from the hood. I have checked the radiator for leaks and the fan belts and hoses for damage, and am not seeing any problem with them. The cap on the radiator does seem to appear to have a damaged outer seal, but am unsure if that could even be the cause of the problem. Please let me know if you have any ideas that might help. Thanks Jeanie

Answer
Hi Jeanie,
Yes, I would start by replacing the radiator cap as leakage of coolant will result in an inadequate amount to flow efficiently through the system and thus overheating. Be sure to get one of the same type as the old one (pressure rating, sized to fit the radiator). If that doesnt fix the problem let me know and we can take the analysis further. Check the engine compartment and the ground under car for signs of leaks at the end of each trip until this is solved.
