Chrysler Repair: Engine mis-fire: 97 2.5L V-6, vacuum hose?, vacuum hose, flash pause

Question
QUESTION: I have a 97 Chrysler Sabring Convertible Lx 2.5 V6 24v. The car started by shutting off while it was running ! So i changed the rotor and rotor cap ! The car would warm up then shut off ! I thought it was due to a hose that i found was disconnected ? but i cant find were it goes ? i try to follow the diagram that is on the inside of the hood and i cannot find the location were it goes ? now the car sounds like it is misfiring and shaking and wont run for more than 5 min ?

ANSWER: Hi Daniel,
Can you tell me what part the attached end of the hose is still connected to? That hose is no doubt a 'Vacuum' hose which when detached will lean the mixture so your engine runs badly. I have the diagram here so maybe I can figure it out. If it is attached to the engine's intake manifold you could temporarily plug the hose with a tight fitting screw and that might make it run better until we can find out exactly where it should go. It instead it is attached to something else, then the screw won't help but it is a good clue. Give that a try. Or if you see another Sebring/Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze ask the owner if you can look under the hood of their car.

Also, try the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light to see it flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat to be sure you have an accurate set of flash numbers.  The last too sets of flashes should be 5 in each. Tell me the number of flashes in the order that they appeared. If the light doesn't flash at all, just stays 'on', then do the key switching again and look at the odometer window to see if the mileage is replaced by a 4-digit number with a P as a prefix.
Either way, such number(s) mzy well tell us what to investigate next.

QUESTION: Hello again thank you for the response to my question !. I looked at the diagram and her goes the line is connected from the DUTY CYCLE PURGE SOLENOID ,the top line that has the service port goes to the EVAP CANNISTER it is connected and the bottom line is the one that is not connected ? My father and i took apart the INTAKE MANIFOLD to see if maybe it was connected or feel off some were ? We have not put back the INTAKE MANIFOLD so we have not yet tried the other part with turning on and off the key ? we were thinking it would go some were simple ? is their a way to get the full diagram to see were it goes ? i went to AUTO ZONE to look at the book but could not find anything ? Do you need more info ?

ANSWER: Hi Daniel,
According to the diagram that hose from the solenoid is connected to the throttle body which is where the vapors are recycled back into the engine. It appears that there is a single port at the solenoid to which three lines are connected (one from the clean air resonator, one from the intake manifold and the third is from the solenoid). It appears to be a "T" or an "X" fitting that is involved so look around the throttle body plenum for any such port and see if you can find an open nipple to which you can attach the vacuum line. Certainly if the hose were disconnected it would likely cause an air leak which would lean out your mixture.
I believe that you can read the codes regardless of the manifold situation.

QUESTION: Thank you Roland i did what you rote me in the recent answer ! I had no luck ? i did not find a 3 way or anything similar to it so i put the car back together and i tried the key i did it and waited but got no read out could it be because i changed the dash ? well can you think of anything else ? i will defiantly put you down for that award bro !!

Answer
Hi Daniel,
By when you tried the key you got: 'no readout', 'no luck' what do you mean? Did the check engine light come 'on' and stay 'on' or did it not light at all when you left the key in its 'on' position?
On the disconnected hose, my Haynes manual for '95-'00 Cirrus/Stratus/Breeze, which have the V-6 also, shows in Chapter 2, Part B, illustration 4.3b that there is a nipple directly on the throttle body that sticks out of the side of the body (at the top of the body) that faces the passenger-side front corner of the car. That obvious nipple is where your disconnected duty cycle purger solenoid hose is supposed to be connected to. It is just above where the throttle position sensor plug attaches to the throttle position sensor. So attach your hose to that nipple and see how the engine runs. Thanks for the rating and nomination!
