Chrysler Repair: 00 Sebring rear windows, chrysler lebaron, window mechanisms

Question
QUESTION: My back windows will not go down at all.

ANSWER: Hi Vicki,
If this is a convertible and the front windows work then I suspect you have defective 1/4- window drive motor mechanisms if the windows have been slowing down or failing independently of one another. Those go bad when water gets trapped in the body-well just below them so they rust. There are drain holes on the underside of the body that you have to keep clear of debris to reduce the possibility of such water buildup. You have to remove the interior quarter panel trim panel to gain access for replacement of the mechanism. If you want to do it yourself shop around for rebuilt mechanism on the internet. I can give you the pages from the manual that show how it is done.
There is also 'window timer module' which is involved in operating the rear windows and it could be faulty is another possibility as the cause, if this just happened all of a sudden and both windows failed together. The timer module is inside the driver door and when you use the power top down switch pins 4 and 6 of that timer should show voltage. If not, then the timer module is bad.
Tell me more about the history of this situation if it is relevant to thesw possibilities.

Answer
Hi Vicki,
Then I am virtually certain that it is not the wiring, or the switches, or the timer module but rather the 1/4-window mechanisms that need to be replaced or serviced. Other convertible owners have experience with where to buy them and installing them. There is a Yahoo Autos group called the Chrysler LeBaron Club which you could try: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/thechryslerlebaronclub/messages
and do search for '1/4 window' or 'quarter window'  as the subject and read through those experiences.
