Question
I have a 2000 chrysler town and country LXi and have been having a problem for awhile of the door ajar light coming on all the time even after i know all the doors are shut. along with that when that comes on the door locks and inteior lights and a bell start going crazy off and on. while that was annoying now the panic alarm is now going off all the time when the car is parked (it dont have a alarm on it that gets set, just the panic alarm on the key ring) now something is running the battery dead.can you help

Answer
Hi Jenipher,
The problem is that one of the four doors (or maybe the tailgate) is not being latched firmly enough to push in the ajar warning switch far enough to disable it. When the warning light it 'on' try pushing each of the doors while standing outside of the van to see which one will cause the light to go off. Then find the latch hook mounted in the door frame and loosen the screws that hold it in place and then move the latch in-board a fraction of an inch and retighten the screws to see if you moved it far enough so that when you close the door the light now doesn't come on and yet that the door latch mechanism is in the fully locked position (it has 2 positions so you want it to be in the fully locked postion). That is what will probably take care of the problem. Most likely it is the driver door but try all four and the tailgate.
