Chrysler Repair: Oil Sludge in 3.3L 92 V-6, positive crankcase ventilation, chrysler lebaron

Question
Hi Roland

A couple of years ago you helped my husband with this 1992 Chrysler Lebaron and I am hoping you can help us again.

Again, he has a 1992 Chrysler Lebaron, 3.3 Ltr, 6 cylinder engine with a lot of miles on it.  Back in 2008 he bought this car (bad mistake for him) and we had to have a used engine put on it.  Due to the other engine had seals bad and leaking oil.

He started to change the oil this morning on it, and noticed the oil looked very very thick.  When he pulled the oil pan plug out, the oil didn't even come out like normal.  When he pulled the dipstick out, it was all gunked up.

How should he go about getting the sludge oil out so he can put the new oil in?  What do you think is causing this problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Liz

Answer
Hi Liz,
I suspect that the positive crankcase ventilation valve (pcv) is clogged up so you need to replace that and make sure that its hoses which connect it to the engine are not also clogged. To clean out the lubrication system and oil pan you would want some thin solvent so my suggestion would be to check at a good auto parts store to find out what sorts of products they sell and follow the directions on what you choose to use. Buy a PCV valve while you are there; very inexpensive and easy to replace.
