Chrysler Repair: Voyager: central locking cycles on its own, push button switch, old fashion way

Question
I have a year 2000 3.3 petrol auto grand voyager and suddenly the dobber stopped working. I have tried new battery, but no good. Now when you unlock the door with the key, it unlocks, locks, unlocks, locks etc etc.  I have to unlock and hold the drivers handle to open the door, then open the rest of the doors with the button by the wing mirror.  Anything obvious I can try before taking it in?  Thank you!

Answer
Hi Jenny,
This locking system is a bit complex and is controlled by the body computer which has sensors at all the doors that tells it when a door is ajar or unlocked. It will try to lock the offending door. It might be that the push-button switch in the door frame of the driver door (or any other door for that fact) is not being pushed in far enough to avoid the 'ajar' message so the computer tries to lock it.
You might be able to figure out which door is out of adjustment with the aid of a helper to try  the other doors. Begin by pushing 'in' on the driver door and keep pushing before and while you unlock it and see if that prevents the problem. If so, then simply move the latch striker on the door frame in-board a  bit so that the door is then secured more tightly in place. Have the helper do the same thing at the other doors while you try the key unlock. If that doesn't reveal the source of the problem it is possible to 'ask' the body computer what is wrong and then fix what it points to. That is done at a dealer using a diagnostic readout box. Because you say 'petrol' I wonder if you are outside the US and that may be costly/inconvenient?
Let me know if my suggestion helps or not and we can go further if necessary. You may be able to avoid the issue by not availing yourself of the power lock system. Do that by securing the vehicle by means of the push-button manual door lock on the interior of each door when you leave. Don't use the power locks or the key fob to secure the doors, just do it the old-fashion way and you will get around the hassle.
