Answer
Hi Jeremy,
Have you tried for fault codes stored in the PCM? Turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light to see it begin to flash, puuse, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat for accuracy. Let me know the counts in order of appearance and we'll go from there.
Another possibility is that the egr valve is sticking open slightly ajar when you take your foot off the gas which causes a too lean mixture to sustain a good idle. So find the stem in the flanged area between the rount top of the valve and the valve body which is mounted in the branching pipe off the front manifold that goes underneath the thermostat housing where you will see the valve. The stem has a slot into which you can insert the tip of a screwdriver and use that to move the stem back and forth. Spring-action in one direction should close it to a dead stop. If not, then spray the stem where it enters the valve body with WD-40 and work the stem to loosen it up.
