Chrysler Repair: 99 Town & Country AC: rear air distribution, floor outlets, rear fan

Question
Hello Kevin,

Found this site while trying to figure out why the vents in the rear of my 99 town and country don't blow. The rear fan works fine, took the rhs panel off and verified that. Also the system in front works perfectly. It's just that for some reason, I think the door that allows the air being blown by the fan at the rear is stuck closed, because no air comes out at all even when the rear fan is running at full speed. Does this make any sense to you? Please let me know if you have any ideas on how to fix this.

Regards!

Yuri.

Answer
Hi Yuri,
There are two air outlets from the rear system, have you check both of them?
According to my shop manual, air from inside the vehicle is drawn into the rear system from the right rear quarter trim panel. The air goes through the heater and the cooler cores. Where the air is then distributed depends upon where the driver's temp control lever is set on the front ac/heater control unit: it can very between the floor and the overhead outlets. If the lever is below 20% all the air will come out the overhead air outlets. Between 20% and 80% the air will come out the last position selected that was over 80 or under 20. Above 80% lever position the air will come out the floor outlets. So perhaps you are seeking air to come out of the other (either floor or overhead) that has not been selected because of the position of the driver temp control lever up front. Also be sure that the air intake is not blocked at the right rear quarter trim panel.
See if that is the case and please let me know.
Roland
PS: Sorry for the delay in answering but I just found your qustion in the 'pool' to which it had been referred by Kevin. Please 'rate' my answer, and where you see the question about 'volunteer of the month' please consider giving me a 'yes' vote. Thank you.
