Chrysler Repair: Power window problems/diagnosis: 98 minvan, using a multimeter, minvan

Question
Hello Kevin,
Chrysler T&C 1998 SX 3.3L minivan. My driver side window is not working. Upon pressing the down switch, sometimes I hear a piercing sound and the glass doesn't roll. Other times, nothing happens at all. I tried to figure this out and removed the door panel. Still unable to isolate the issue. Here are my steps:
-Opened the door panel.
-Removed the wire connector that goes to the motor
-Using a multimeter, tested the voltage between the two pins. Whenever I press up or down on the switch I always get +12volts. I was expecting the polarity to reverse when I reversed the meter pins?
-After reconnecting the wires, I press the connector by hand and I seem to get motor movement only in the UP position. Upon pressing down switch, again I hear he squeaking noise at the power switch.

Whats going on? Is it the motor or the switch? What is my next step?

Please help.

Thanks,
Prasad

Answer
Hi Prasad,
The problem is in the switch which is supposed to reverse the polarity between the up and down requests. I would try squirting some electronic circuit cleaner in the switch through any holes or cracks near to that section of the switch to improve the contacts. If that won't work then replace the switch.
