Chrysler Repair: Radio shorts out and display blinks, 2001 chrysler lhs, chrysler lhs

Question
I live in Minnesota and own a 2001 Chrysler LHS with a radio / CD player problem. During the Fall winter and early spring the radio works fine. When the weather warms to 70 degrees or warmer is when it doesn't work. If I attempt to turn the radio or CD player on the radio display starts blinking various numbers and no sound is heard. Sometimes the radio displays the radio station but no sound is heard. As soon as I touch the volume button the display starts blinking random numbers. at night when it is cold everything works fine. What can I do to fix this issue?

Answer
Hi Tim,
This sounds to me like a problem internal to the radio, such as an electrolytic capacitor in the power supply section beginning to fail. These are small round cylinders and would be located near to the where the plug enters the back of the radio chassis. They are soldered at two points on the circuit board. You could replace the couple that are found at that location to see if that resolves the issue. I doubt it is related to the incoming power wire. You might notice a single black ground wire on the back of the radio and trace it to where it is fastened to the firewall near by and make sure that it tightly attached at that point. That might be the problem, but the temperature-dependence of the problem makes me think of a failing capacitor.

Sorry for the delay in answering but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which the other expert had referred it.
