Chrysler Repair: Lights flicker and van shuts off, emery paper, battery clamps

Question
I have a 1996 Town and country lxi.  Recently as I was coming to an intersection and braking to slow down, the inside lights began to flicker, the dash lights flicker as well, the abs warning ligh came on and at the intersection once stopped, the van shut off.  The van starts again as normal, no light flickering, but then again randomly at another intersection, it will do it again.

What do you think I need to check and do to repair this problem?

Answer
Hi Edwin,
Start with the battery and its cables. Remove the both of the battery clamps (remove the - first) and polish the terminals and the inner surface of the cable clamps with a wire brush or emery paper. The note the 2 wires on the battery - post clamp. One goes to the engine so follow that one and make sure it is tightly and cleanly connected there. The other one goes down to the bottom of the engine compartment where is it attached to the frame of the van, lower edge. That one may be loose or corroded so remove that one and similarly polish it (and other wires connected at the same point) and the frame to which they are attached and then firmly connect the wires to the frame. You may find it easier to get to this ground point by jacking up the left front wheel and getting under the van to access it because it is so low that reaching it and even seeing it from above may be a problem.
Then reconnect the battery, + clamp first, then finish with the -clamp. I suspect your grounding wires are your problem based on the fact that so many different systems are flaky, and the only thing they share is the need for a good ground return path for the current to the battery. If you hear any 'arcing' sounds when the problem occurs, then we will want to look at the + wires from its battery clamp, but the lights and engine and starter are on different sub-circuits so it is doubtful they would all act up together, and even the generator would keep the van running if those wires were compromised.

Sorry for the delay in answering but I just found your question in the 'pool' to which the other expert had referred it.
