Chrysler Repair: Sebring 2.5L timing belt replacement, chrysler sebring coupe, chrysler sebring convertible

Question
Dear Roland,

Back in 2007 you answered the question about replacing the timing belt on a Chrysler Sebring 2.5 V6 (see below).

In connection with that I have 2 questions:

1) Is it the 6G73 engine that is in the chrysler sebring convertible?

2) Would you have the possibility to send me the step-by-step guide to changing the timing belt (you mentioned in your previous answer that a guide was available to you)?

Thanks in advance!

Question
I am in the process of installing a timing belt on a 99 chrysler sebring coupe with a 2.5 L V6.  How and where can I find the index marks on all three shafts to double check my timing?  What positions should they be in?

Answer
Hi Chad,
There is a timing mark on the inner circle of the crankshaft sprocket and when it is aligned with the mark on the oil pump housing then the marks on each of the camshaft sprockets should be aligned with the marks on the rear surfaces of their timing belt covers.
Do you have the step-by-step procedure for how to do this? If not, I can either type it in, or xerox and postal mail you a copy of the pages. It is detailed, so it won't likely happen unless you follow the specific procedure. Did you retension the tensioner in a vice and hold it in place with a pin? Then you have to go thru 9 steps to get it right. Let me know by using the thank/rate tab and use the comment section to tell me what you know or need to know.

Answer
Hi Rune,
I have the manuals for the '99 Cirrus/Stratus, '00 Sebring Covertible, and the '00 Sebring/Avenger Coupe. They all have a section on the timing belt change out, but the details in the first two listed are more extensive than the latter. The latter appears to be a Mitsubishi-drafted text and it does indeed specify the engine as the '6G73' in the coupe. The other manuals are Chrysler-drafted but don't mention the engine number per se (just calling it the 2.5 V-6 SOHC), but I strongly believe it is identical to the coupe engine. I can xerox copy and postal mail you the pages from either manual. If you would send me back three 44-cent stamps to cover my costs, after you receive the pages, that would be appreciated. Let me know a postal mailing address.
Thanks,
Roland
