Chrysler Repair: 97 Cirrus:hard start /poor performance when warm, fuel air mixture, 4 digit numbers

Question
car starts fine when cold but once warms up and temp is half way dont start wants to start starts sometime but wont rev up and convertor get cherry red and fan dont come on

Answer
Hi Mike,
The converter getting red makes me wonder if it might be plugging up or it could be a fuel/air mixture issue. The best way to get a handle is to find out if the engine control has recognized a fault and stored a code in its memory. Turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine light, which remains 'on', to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat for accuracy.
Then write back with the counts, in order of appearance.
If the light doesn't flash, then instead see if any 4-digit numbers appear in place of the mileage reading in the odometer window when you do the key routine. Let me know those numbers. If neither way works then get a free code readout with a plug-in reader at an Autozone parts store.
I await your fault code report and we'll go from there.
If the fan doesn't come on, is you temp gauge reading hot or in the normal range at that point?
