Chrysler Repair: Disc Brake overheating, caliper pistons, wheel disc

Question
Hi, my RH FT brake is overheating. I took the wheel off and there is play between the rotor and pads and also I can slide the caliber halves. the 05 town and country does pull a little to the right

Answer
Hi Jim,
There must be some binding up in that brake assembly that causes it to drag after you apply the brakes. That heating would then cause a 'pulling' with subsequent rotation of the wheel/disc.  It might be one of the caliper pistons is sticking in its cylinder in the caliper (which you might loosen up if you removed the caliper and wedged the pads apart a bit while observing for how freely they will retract), or the caliper assembly itself may be binding up on the caliper pins along which it slides so try lubing those surfaces with silicone or even replacing the pins or bushings, or the brake hose between the caliper and the brake line on the chassis may be rotting-out internally which can causes a slow return of brake fluid and thus the caliper to not retract on its own (so you change out the brake hose). Those are the factors that I have learned that can cause a disc brake to hang up.
You might also check the side-to-side flatness of the disc with a dial indicator placed with its feeler against the surface and then rotate the disc and see how much warpage variation you have. It should be less than .13 mm (.005 inches). Do you feel any pulsing oscillation in the pedal pressure as you slow down with the brake gently 'on'.
Let me know what you observe and we can go from there.
