Chrysler Repair: 99 Concorde: crank sensor location, crank sensor, chrysler concorde

Question
where is the crank sensor located on a 99 chrysler concorde

Answer
Hi Alicia,
The crank sensor is located at the very rear end of the engine, on the passenger side, It sits right of the surface of the transaxle housing at the interface between the engine and the transmission. It is held in place by a single screw and it has an electrical plug with three wires that has a tab on its edge which you lift gently to release the plug. When/if you put in the new one, you leave the paper spacer on the tip of the sensor, and you insert it in the hole that old one came out of far enough that you feel the paper-tipped end of it come in contact with a hard surface that is hidden from view. You hold it in that position while you tighten the clamping screw to hold it in that positon. Then re-attach the plug. It may be easier to do this change over by jacking up the right front wheel, put a stand under the car for safety, and then change the sensor from underneath.
The sensor is 'looking" at the metal disc on the rear of the crankshaft at the very end of the engine and that is connected to the torque converter of the transmission. That is why it is located at that far end of the engine.
