Chrysler Repair: Dodge Neon 2000 2,0L Engine unable to start, seatbelt sign, dodge neon

Question
Hi Kevin,
I have a problem with my Dodge Neon 2.0L. Two weeks ago I was driving on the highway when all of a sudden my car lost complete power to the car. I tried to accelerate but wouldnt work, the rpm just dropped till the car lost its momentum. After I pulled over, i tried to crank the engine again but it wouldnt click or make any sound except my security light thats in the far right of the odometer, would turn on and remain on until the key has been removed. I took it to the shop but they still have the car in there btw, but they dont know whats going on. They said that the car would not crank, nor send any fuel to the engine, nor send sparks to the engine, not even one single sound except for the moment when you insert the key in the ignition and switch it on. Battery seems to be fine and fully charged and the starter is working fine as well since they did a troubleshoot by taking a live wire from the battery and crank up the starter, it would move. They tried using a live wire from the battery to the starter and the engine will crank but it will not turn on. It will just keep on cranking until you move the live wire away from the battery. The security light will remain on along with the seatbelt sign the whole entire time, nothing else on the odometer. The mechanics are baffled as to whats going on?

Do you have any idea as to what might be happening for the car to act up this way, or what might be the issue thats causing this problem?

Thanks.

Answer
Hi Naez,
There are 3 fuses direct from the battery to the ignition switch that should be verified as functional, and they are located in the power distribution center under the hood:
fuse #9 supplies pin 1 at the switch, fuse #4 supplies pin 9 at the switch, fuse #14 supplies pin 4 at the switch. The output pins at the switch that should show voltage in the 'run' position of the switch are pins 7, 2, 8, and 3 so verify that; and also in the 'start' position pins 6 and 2 should show voltage.  Let me know what you learn from those checks and we can go from there if everything looks good. There are three ground wires on the - clamp of the battery that are attached to the left front of the engine compartment, near the starter motor, and near the battery terminal itself, so check those grounds.
