Chrysler Repair: 00 minivan engine died, automobile policy, comprehensive insurance

Question
QUESTION: I was driving and my engine just shut off i still had power it just started coasting and came to a stop and would not crank back up i checked the oil theres gas in it the positive side of the battery was to hot to touch i checked my fuses as well.

ANSWER: Hi Kelly,
I wonder about the battery + post being too hot to touch, that sounds like a short circuit. Try turning the key to the 'on' (run) position and let it sit for a minute or so to see if the post heats up again. If so, you have a short circuit that will need to be diagnosed and fixed.
Then use the ignition key in order to see if there are any clues as to why the engine stopped which are called fault codes and which are stored in the computer. Turn the key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see the mileage reading change to show a four-digit number(s) preceded by a P. Write back with the numbers and we can go from there. Tell me about the battery post heating or not, and does the battery still have enough power to crank the engine?

QUESTION: Right before the van shut off i had accidently hit a dead dog in the road i tried to miss it but i didnt see it in time do you think maybe it something under the van could ber messed up

Answer
That is a possibility, so look inside the engine compartment to see if any wires are disconnected/damaged or anything else is unusual when you look from under the front bumper at the bottom of the engine. How about my other suggestions?

PS: If you have 'comprehensive' insurance on you automobile policy, it might pay to repair damage due to hitting an object in the road. Or maybe 'collision' applies in this case. Ask your insurance agent.
