Chrysler Repair: Chrysler Town&Country instrument light, light emitting diode, chrysler town

Question
2003 Chrysler Town and County LXi has one light out on the climate control section of the instrument panel. How does the panel come off to access the blub?

Answer
Hi Doug,
The manual recommends disconnecting the battery, but that also causes some resets that are a hassle so you may opt not to do that.
There is an access cover on the lower edge of the center bezel which surrounds the HVAC controls. Gently pry out that cover with a soft tool or wooden stick. That will reveal 2 screws that secure the bezel to the dash. Remove those screws. Similarly pry around the edge of the center bezel itself to loosen it from the dash and pull outward. Disconnect the plugs from the back side. Set the unit face down on a soft protective surface. If you have the ATC type unit then disconnect a wire from the infra-red sensor to the back of the unit. Then remove the 6 screws that attach the unit to the bezel. Then separate the contols from the bezel. From there you will need to figure out how to access the light that is out. No specifics of that are offered in the manual. You may need to find a bulb at an electronics supply store if the dealer doesn't offer them for sale. It is probably a 12v light-emitting diode.
