Chrysler Repair: 85 fifth ave: starter motor, starter solenoid, interface area

Question
can you tell me where the starter is located in an 85 fifth ave. i think it is on the right side of the engine if looking from the front. also, do you know if it would be easier to get to it from underneath?

Answer
Hi Brian,
If you have the 318 V-8 or the 225-6 than you are correct that it is on the right as looking from the front. The manual doesn't say to jack up the car (and if so be sure to support it on a jackstand) so I would take a look at it now that you know where to look (right side at the engine/transmission interface area) and see what the accessibility is from above. The removal is pretty straight forward: disconnect negative battery post clamp, remove heat shield from starter (1 bolt/1 nut),  remove wires from starter solenoid, remove 2 bolt/stud & nut holding starter to flange, disconnect oil cooler line bracket if atttached to motor, remove motor using care to preserve the seal at the interface. I suspect you would find it easier from underneath but you be the judge.

PS:I assume this year's 5th Ave. is a rear-wheel drive vehicle, if not let me know.
