Chrysler Repair: Code 22, code 41 no start cond. Battery dead, coolant temp, engine coolant

Question
I have a Chrysler Le Baron 93 V6 3.0 liter engine. We have spoken about this before however I am still coming up short. I have cleared the computer of old codes and have replaced the Engine coolant temp sensor. I have a 5v refrence at the coolant sensor. I am also getting a code 41, as well as a code 42. Once I jump the car, the car will idle cold for a while until it gets warm, and then the alternator will die out and the car will stall. While the car is still cold I have a alternator charge. I have checked the wires and there does not appear to be a short. I am at a loss as to what to try next. Thank you for your help once again.

Answer
Hi Bob,
The question in my mind is whether the 22 code (or did you mean 42 in the subject line?) for the engine coolant temp sensor is the reason the car stalls, or the 42 code (asd relay failing to put out its 12V) causing the engine to stall? One clue would be whether the engine is beginning to falter as it warms (which would suggest the ect circuit) or does it just out of the blue stall when otherwise idling smoothly? You don't have an engine position sensor code, so the 42 would have to be due to a failing ASD relay (try switching out with another uncritical relay with the same part number and see what happens) or a failing in the wire that activate the ASD (dark blue/yellow wire at the outboard pin of the relay socket goes to pin 51 of the ASD) or the 12v supply to the relay coil from the ignition switch that comes in on the inboard pin of the relay socket with the key in the 'run' postion. So watch the voltages at the ASD relay pins and see why it is opening, if possible, after substituting another relay and if still quits.
The 41 code may happen because of the ASD cutting out or because the field coil control wire at the pcm 'opens', or the alternator field coil may be opening. Figure out why the ASD is opening and then worry about alternator would be my advice. If the battery is running down then it sounds like your alternator is 'going' out, probably due to an open field coil would be my suspicion.
