Chrysler Repair: starting issues: cold weather, motor brushes, starter relay

Question
its bitter cold i turned my car off then went to sart it and it just makes a clicking noise can u help me please

Answer
Hi Alan,
Chances are the battery efficiency is decreased by the temperature being so low. If you hearing the louder click of the starter relay, then that is the most likely reason the motor isn't turning over: just not enough voltage/current from the battery. If you want to try a remedial 'trick' use a hammer to tap on the side of the starter motor while a helper tries the starter, as the other possibility is the starter motor brushes/armature interface may be marginal due to wear and tear.
If you have a battery charger or you can warm up the battery with a heat pad powered by an extension cord that would increase the likelihood of increasing the starting power of the battery.
