Chrysler Repair: Tie Rod ends Chry-LHS=1997, front wheel bearing, wheel hub

Question
Would it be difficult to replace tie rod ends, specifically drivers side, with the car in the driveway and also I was told the wheel hub has some play in it, what would have to be done to fix this problem.

Answer
Hi Al,
You would need to jack up the front end and put it on jack stands to do these job well and safely. The tie rod end needs one special tool (a 'splitter') to remove the end of the tie rod from the steering are into which it is pressed. The front wheel bearing and hub are sold as a unit, so if there is excess play you need to replace the unit which requires removal of the brake caliper and disc, and then removal of the hub assembly from the steering knuckle which is bolted in place, separating it from the end of the stub axle. You would want to have the various wrenches and a torque wrench to attach the bolts/etc. to the proper torque setting. It amounts to about 6 pages of instructions which I can copy and postal mail to you for your review. If you would send me back 3 44-cent stamps to cover my cost that would be appreciated. So let me know via a 'private' question what you postal mailing address is should you like those pages.
