Chrysler Repair: 88 5.2L V-8 wont start, wheel drive car, rear wheel drive

Question
Hi: I have a 1988 crysler 5th ave. 318 motor. I had the car running the night before but the next day it started for a few seconds and shut off. I tried it numerour time since with no luck.I has spark on the coil and plugs. It is also getting gas.
I was wondering if it might be a problem with the electronic fuel control system. Would appreciate your thoughts. thanks.

Answer
Hi Al,
That sounds like a 5.2L V-8 rear wheel drive car, which I don't have that much experience with, but I checked Mopar.com and find that yours has a carburetor, not fuel injection. I have the '83 rear wheel drive manual (the only rear manual I have) so if things hadn't changed very much to '88 I have some info. What is the efc system called by name just to be sure?
How about an egr valve? Is there one on it? Let me know that too aa it can mess up the mixture for starting/idling if it is stuck ajar.
Also, do you happen to have anti-theft system? That sort of quit after 2-3 seconds is characteristic oa an alarmed system, but that may post-date '88.
