Chrysler Repair: Fault code 0071: ambient temp sensor, ambient air temperature, ambient air temperature sensor

Question
Roland, my 2009 Town and Country van has displayed its MIL for a week now.  The code displayed is P0071.  What specifically does that code number indicate?  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Keith,
The code says that there is malfunction of the ambient air temperature sensor which is a small thermo-sensitive resistor mounted to the radiator support panel on the right side, but in front of the radiator. You should be able to see it by looking up from underneath the van and behind the front bumper facsia, held in place by a screw. It has two wires: violet/light green and dark blue/dark green and those wires go to pins 22 of the black/black plug of the pcm and pin 27 of the black/orange plug at the pcm. The pcm has four plugs that all look black externally overall, but have an interior color that differs. You could check the continuity of the wires, and if those are OK then replace the sensor. The pcm uses the input to show the external temp on the cabin display and also to control the battery charging rate for optimum charge.
