Chrysler Repair: 1996 Neon SOHC 2.0L: no start, crankshaft sensor, wd 40

Question
I am working on my granddaughters car & have run into a problem,
car cranks, but will not start.
Have done all the checkes IE. crankshaft sensor, ignition coil, coil pack electrical connector, Map sensor, TPS sensor, all indicate okay or come within specifications.
Also did the spark plugs, all have good spark. Checked the injectors, all meet specs. Tested inj. connectors with NOID light,
all okay. Fuel pump puts out 48-50 PSI but if you pull the injectors after cranking, they are dry. It acts like it wants to start.Look forward to your reply.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Roy,
Because it is a '96 it is likely going to tell you the two-digit fault codes if you ask it.
I would try the memory of the engine controller to see if it has any stored fault codes. Turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine which remains 'on' to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the procedure to assure an accurate set of flash counts. Group the counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form the 2-digit fault code numbers. The last number is always 55 because it means 'end of fault code readout'. Then write back and tell me the other codes or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a translation of the codes.
The other item that may be preventing a start, due to a too dilute mixture, is the egr valve which may be stuck slightly ajar. Find the valve stem between the body of the valve and its round vacuum actuator on it top. The stem is hidden behind a flange between those two parts and it has a circumferential slot into which you can insert the tip of a screwdriver to move the stem back and forth, against spring action that tries to close it in one direction. The spring should move the stem to a dead stop, closed. If it is sticky, then spray some WD-40 on the stem where it enters the valve body and move the stem until it frees up. Then try and start the engine.

Thanks for the quick response.
My scanner comes up no codes, but using the check engine light as you suggested. it gives me 1244 then the 55. Tried to find it on the Allpar site but no luck

Hi Roy,
The 44 code has to do with the battery temp sensor so that wouldn't impact the starting. The 12 and 55 also are not unusual and again have nothing to do with the starting. How about the egr valve sticking ajar, have you checked that out.
