Chrysler Repair: 95 3,5L: hard start when cold, loses power, chrysler new yorker, engine controller

Question
I have a 1995 Chrysler new Yorker 3.5 L. just changed the timing belt and aligned all the marks it has trouble starting when cold when driving at a steady speed it seems to lose engine power and the speedometer will drop to zero then come back up nothing else electrical seems to stop rpm stays the same. Then sometimes it will run ok doesn't seem to miss any suggestions thank you ,Randy

Answer
Hi Randy,
I would try the memory of the engine controller to see if it has any stored fault codes. Turn the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the check engine which remains 'on' to see it begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the procedure to assure an accurate set of flash counts. Group the counts in pairs in the order of appearance to form the 2-digit fault code numbers. The last number is always 55 because it means 'end of fault code readout'. Then write back and tell me the other codes or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a translation of the codes.
The speedo dropping out might be the output speed sensor on the transmission but if it doesn't impact the transmission than that would counter that posssibility. The cold start issue could be a sensor off-value. But lets see what fault codes the engine controller may have set.
