Chrysler Repair: thermostat bolt removel 2.5L V-6, broken shaft, penetrating oil

Question
i have 1996 2.5 6cyl cirrus cant get to bottom bolt to change thermostat any suggestions for an easier way.

Answer
Hi Dawn,
I am not clear if you can't access the bolt, or if you can, and it won't turn. If the former, try removing the radiator clamp and hose at that same housing, and consider what else is preventing access. You may need a slightly differ designed box end or socket?
If the bolt won't release, then I would get some penetrating oil or use WD-40 spray or other similar penetrating liquid and let it sit overnight. Then try rocking back and forth (tighten/loosen) to free up the threads which may be rusted together. If you still have coolant in the system try warming up the engine before doing this. If not, then just try to not overtorque it and break the bolt. You might want to remove that entire housing rather than break the bolt and have to buy a new one or at least drill out the broken shaft instead.
