Chrysler Repair: voyager trans problem: code 0733, plymouth voyager, voyager 3

Question
QUESTION: 2000 Plymouth voyager, 3.3 liter, 41te 4-speed auto trans. I was going up a hill and it downshifted to 3rd and seemed to jump out of gear. A code came up that pointed to speed sensors. I replaced them, changed trans fluid. It will go into gear and shift to 2nd fine, but when it tries to shift to 3rd it slips, makes a chattering noise and goes into limp mode.

ANSWER: Hi Jeff,
Check the trans fluid level. Then disconnect the battery for a few minutes, drive it some more, and then get a free code readout at Autozone parts store. Let me know of any codes other than 1684 which is due to battery disconnecting which is to erase earlier codes.

Hi Jeff,
That code says the 3rd gear ratio is out of expectation which unfortunately usually is due to a slipping clutch internal to the transmission. It would be worth having a competent independent trans shop check out the clutch to see if it is slipping and to check the clutch volume indices and consider whether it could be due to a problem with the pressure switch assembly rather than the clutch. That would be the only possibility of avoiding a repair/rebuild which involves removal and high cost.
I wish it were more optomistic, but give a try to find something that doesn't require r&r.
