Chrysler Repair: 98 T&C stops, 4 digit numbers, crank sensor

Question
I have a 98 Town and county with 181K miles and in the last 2 weeks it has started to stop running while while I am driving.  Lucky I have not been on an Interstate when this happens.  The oil light comes on and that is pretty much the only indication other than no power when you step on the gas.  I then put the car in neutral or park and restart it and off I go.  There was only one instance last weekend where it actually took 4 attempts to start it but it finally did.  I took it to a shop and they test drove it to make it happen and of course it did not.  I asked if there were any codes that had been generated and there were none.  They found nothing.  I looked on the net last night and I see things like Cam or crankshaft or EGR or MAP  sensor.  I recently had to have the clock spring replaced and that has been the only electrical work needed.  Van has been well maintained and runs well. I'm looking for clues.  Would still like to keep the van but with things like this happening not real safe.

Hi RC,
You identified the possible culprits: cam/crank sensor, map, egr. If there really are no fault codes, then it could also be a flaky section of the ignition switch. You could carry along a voltmeter or a 12V glow light and check for voltage on the fuses 2, 8 and 10 under the dash when the engine dies, to eliminate that possibility. I would suggest going for another fault code readout, free at an Autozone parts store, or try the ignition switch:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer windor of the cluster to see if the mileage changes to any 4-digit numbers preceeded by a P. If so, let me know those.
