Chrysler Repair: 02 2.7L: no start, no codes after water pump changeout, chrysler sebring 2002, chain tensioners

Question
hi kevin
i voted to save my moms 2.7 Sebring only because it had synthetic ran it from the factory and the inside looked mint not a build up one. car has 153000 on it. well we had water in the oil, checked bearings and they looked like new,never even scratched and cyinders still have factory hone marks on them.
the water pump went out, i pulled the heads thinking it was the head gaskets,nope it was the pump. installed every gasket in the engine incl rear seal.carefully hooked back up every connector and put new plugs in and all. well i have a crank no start, i lined up the crank mark with the oil pump arrow and the dots on the cams were 90* or strait up, counted the links between cams[12] did it by the book unless i mis understood the book. anyway i have a crank no start,unlocked the doors with the key to disarm the security system, i dont have the remote my mother has it, but the key should disarm the system, i dont have any codes except a p1684 which i know what that is, i unhooked the cam sensor and it threw me a cam sensor code, i dont know what to do next? i cleared the cam code and nothing pope up, i hear the pump and even bled the gas line at the fuel rail, but to no avail it wont start,the car ran perfect before tear down. any clues? i even pulled the fuel pump relay to bring up the oil pressure before starting to fill all hydraulic chain tensioners as well. no funny noises or nothing just cranks and no start? it did backfire once but it blew off the rubber line on top of the engine just on the other side of the throttle body? never did it again, i think its because i used 2 squirts of starting fluid.  never back fired again.this has got to be something simple,i didnt even bump the flywheel sensor or crank sensor i have a crane and a lift so i didnt have to struggle much. got any hints?
thanks
ron

Answer
Question (continued)
i forgot to mention i have a LXI 2.7 chrysler sebring, 2002 model front wheel drive
i asked you a question a moment ago. i wanted to let you know the info on this car, it was a crank no start after i replaced the water pump and r/r the heads and all the gaskets incl main seal.
let me know
hey by the way thank you for helping so many other out there besides me, ive worked on big block aluminum head chevys to small blocks as well since i was 18 or so, and many other cars, to many to mention, i have a excellant background in mechanics so i can understand what you say,i did not check for spark by pulling the plugs, i was afraid i might saturate the coils or something if i did this, i had a jet ski once and i bought the 200 dollar manual and it said to ground the plug wires when cranking the engine so i wouldnt hurt my iginition so i was afraid to do this to the sebring.
thank
you in advance

Hi Ron,
I found your question in the "pool" to which it had been referred by Kevin. I would believe that removing one plug and then reattach it to the coil and ground the shell while a helper cranks the engine to be sure that you do have a solid spark. Other than that, it would be good to check the signal voltage for the MAP sensor as it is possible to have a functioning sensor but have it be inaccurate without setting a fault code. Measure between the black/light blue and dark green/red wires when at rest and when cranking and see how it changes. It should be in the range of 4.6V at rest, and lower than that when being cranked.
