Chrysler Repair: power steering belt: 99 2.5L V-6, bar torque, pivot bolt

Question
My power steering belt broke on my 99 sebring jxi convertible. My manual shows how to replace the pump, but does not even mention the belt. I want to try to replace it myself. Can you help me?
Also, I sought your advice in the past regarding the sebring running hot and draining back into the reservoir. I the thermostat checked out okay, I replaced the radiator cap, flushed the system, replaced the relay sensor and made sure the fan was coming on. It continued to run hot. You ask me to let you know if I found a solution. Well just by chance while watching the fan, I saw that it would get stuck due to a ridge created I guess by age. I replaced the fan and that took care of the problem. I just want to tell you again, how thankful I am for your patience and professionalism. I do appreciate the time you take out of your day to help the helpless I me!

Answer
Hi Theresa,
There are three bolts that you have to access to loosen the pump enough to move it inward in order to put the new belt on. Then you use a 1/2" drive ratchet handle/breaker bar/torque wrench, inserted in a 1/2" square hole in the pump mount plate to lever/rotate the pump outward and thus tighten the belt to the point where it will push-in about 1/4" when pressed midway between the pulleys. The first bolt is the bolt around which the pump pivots and you get to it from above, reaching in and down from the engine compartment opening. Once that is loosened you need to jack up the wheel, remove it, and then remove the splash shield between the wheel/tire and the front of the engine. This gives you access to the other two bolts (one on the front side/one of the back side of the pump mounting plate) which are the adjustment slot bolts and once those are loosened the pump will rotate around the pivot bolt to allow for the new belt to be mounted, and tightening of the new belt. The smaller locking bolt is tightened to about 20 foot pounds and the two larger bolts (one the pivot, the other a locking) are tightened to 40 foot pounds. I can xerox and postal mail you a page from the '00 manual that shows how this is done. Just give me a postal mailing address.
