Question

Answer
Hi Jeramey,
The best way to approach this problem is to get any fault codes that may be present in the engine computer. This is something you can do yourself using the ignition key.
Turn the ignition switch:" on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that routine in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the 'check engine' light, which remains 'on', to begin to flash, pause, flash, etc. Count the number of flashes before each pause. Then repeat the routine to be sure that you have an accurate set of flash counts. Then group the counts in pairs, in the order of appearance, to form the 2-digit fault code numbers. Then either write back with the results or go to www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html for a code listing. The last two sets of flashes will always be 5 in each, which becomes the number 55, which means 'end of readout".
I believe that this is due to one of the two engine position sensors breaking down when it gets hot, then self-repairing as it cools. But the code is needed to tell us which one is doing it. Also tell me which engine you have in the car and what is the year of the car.
