Chrysler Repair: exhaust and engine noise: 2004 Chryler Pacifica 2.5 eng allwheel drive, 4 digit numbers, smoke flares

Question
Hey Mr. Roland. Walmart oil change has stripped my bolt so I need a new oil pan which is on order. Until then I went to get some seafoam from the auto part store they didnt have any but recommended stp oil treatment. When i put that in the car has been smoking blue/gray from exhaust really bad. I tried drving it out but im afraid someone is going to call the fire dept. Also now it seems the engine is making a noise as well. air filter is good, tune up is done, just had the throttle sensor replaced in feb. But the engine is making a noise like a rotating noise. smoke flares when I give the engine gas. When drving it feels like it gets stuck and then smoke fumes BAD!!!thanks jess

Answer
Hi Jessica,
I don't understand what the seafoam/stp oil treatment was supposed to accomplish? Who suggested it? Did the incident with the oil pan drain bolt getting stripped have anything to do with the start up of the engine problems, or is this something that has been going on before that? Or did the problem begin soon after the bolt stripping? Could you have lost all the oil or enough so that you were running the engine without sufficient oil pressure which is very damaging? Maybe the issue is not just the oil pan, but the consequences of the oil running low? How many miles are on the engine?
Have you tried to readout the engine controller for fault codes: use the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading changes to show any 4-digit numbers preceeded by a P. If so let me know what those numbers are. That is the best way to start to diagnose engine problems, but noises are signs of internal wear beyond normal.
