Chrysler Repair: Keyless Entry FOB 1996 Sebring Conv: programming, programming request, keyfob

Question
I have a 1996 Sebring Contvertible. I have 1 keyless entry keyfob which is on its last leg. I want to program another. Can it be done by the end user or do I need to go to a dealer or locksmith? If I can program it How do I do it? Thanks in advance for your response.

Answer
Hi Rob,
Both the '96 and '00 Sebring convert manuals say that the programming of a new FOB requires intervention with the DRB (dealer device). Interestingly, the '98 minivan manual says how to do it, but it may be a different system. You could give it a try:
Using you good fob unlock the car to turn of the theft system.
Turn the igntion switch to the run position (don't start the engine)
Using the good fob press and hold the unlock button for between 4 and 10 seconds
During the 4-10 second period of time and while still holding the unlock button also press and release the panic button. Listen for a chime that says the RKE module is ready to program the new fob.
Within 30 seconds press any button on the new fob.
After 30 seconds listen for a chime which indicates the module will not accept another programming request.
Turn off the ignition switch
Check to see if the new fob is now programmed into the system.
Please let me know if this works with your convert or not. Then if not, I am afraid you have to get a dealer to do it.
