Chrysler Repair: 2001 Dodge Caravan ASD Relay clicks, egr solenoid, dodge caravan

Question
Hi Kevin, thought you might know the answwer to this question.  I have a 3.3L V6. Sometimes when I turn off the engine the ASD relay clicks continuously but sometimes stops on its own.  But when it is clicking if I unplug the relay and wait a few seconds then plug it back in it seems to reset.  I have thought it might be heat related i.e. when the engine is hot, but not sure it this is coincidence. I replaced the relay with a new one but that did not matter.  I also hear the EGR solenoid clicking, atleast I think it is the EGR since it is on the return exhaust tube that goes to the intake but, I think the EGR is clicking because the relay seems to control it and it clicks in tandem with the relay.  Ever hear of this?  Thanks for your efforts, Kirk.

Answer
Hi Kirk,
The ASD relay of course should not click when the ignition is off. It does have power to the actuation coil at all times, but it should not be energized by having the other end of the coil grounded (which produces the click) unless the engine is being cranked or is running. The wire is brown/white from pin 67 of the pcm to pin 16 of the natural colored plug on the rear of the intergrated power module box under the hood. That wire might be shorting to ground or the pcm could be at fault. I don't think the other relay is the egr solenoid because it is not powered when the ignition is off.
