Chrysler Repair: 95 T&C: solenoid pack on electronic transmission, solenoid pack, chrysler town and country

Question
Backgound: '95 Chrysler Town and Country.  Installed Chrysler rebuilt transmission at 114K miles (JAN 2002), currently have 203K (JUL 2009).  About two years ago, transmission slipped into "limp-in" mode but cleared once I arrived home (2 miles away) and restarted the next morning, operating normally.  Would happen sometimes once a month or once every 5-6 months.  Lately (last 2-3 weeks) happens more frequently, once every couple days or every day.  Took it to the local Chrysler dealership, mechanic said it's the solenoid pack.  He said he was able to isolate it with a simulator to confirm solenoid pack failure.  After reading the posts on this sight, I am more inclined to think it's a wiring/connection/ground strap issue.  How can I confirm w/o the cost of a solenoid pack ($270) and labor (200)?  Where is/are the ground strap(s)?  Please advise and THANK YOU for the service you provide.

Answer
Hi tddnvtny,
The ground for the transmission solenoid pack is the engine itself which is grounded to the battery by a wire at the left rear of the engine.
You could ask the mechanic/look at the work order to see if there was a fault code listed. In '95 that would still be a 2-digit code number. Let me know and we can analyze it on that basis. There are 8 wires on the pack and they connect to pins on the 60-pin plug at the transmission controller. I can tell you the connections if you want to check it out with an ohmmeter/continuity checker. You might want to price the pack yourself at parts stores and consider doing it yourself as another alternative. It is in plain sight on the side of the transmission and doesn't appear to be a major job.
