Chrysler Repair: 1999 sebring coupe: trans wont shift, overdrive switch, sebring coupe

Question
my car while not shift into the last gear..the electronic overdrive switch wont work..i tried replacing the switch on it..but still nothing..im running like 3000 rpms on the highway at 55-60..someone told me that it might be a sensor on my transmission ..could that be the problem?

Answer
Hi Shawn,
Your transmission is stuck in 2nd gear, and this is called 'limp-in mode' which is designed to allow the car to be driven for service when the transmission controller has detected a problem  which might do further damage if not fixed. It could be that the input sensor is bad, the output sensor if it were bad would cause the speedometer to not work. The best thing is to get any fault codes that may be stored in the memory. Use the ignition key:"on-off-on-off-on and leave on" doing that in 5 seconds or less elapsed time. Then watch the odometer window to see if the mileage reading changes to show instead 4-digit fault codes numbers, preceeded by a P. If so, let me know what those numbers are.
