Chrysler Repair: Ignition Cylinder, rectangular hole, plastic tube

Question
I have a locked cylinder which I have the part for, but I can not get the old one out. It is locked up and I can't turn the key to slip it out, so my question is how do i get the cylinder out if I can't get into the run position?

Answer
Hi Daphne,
About all I can suggest is to try puffing some powedered graphite (comes in a plastic tube with a fine tip, squeeze the sides of the tube to puff) into the keyhole and then try working the existing key back and forth and turning it at slightly different depths to see if you can "beat" the lock. Other than that you may have to remove the ignition switch and turn it by hand (insert a screwdriver in the rectangular hole into which the cylinder 'tongue' mates) so you can start the car and get it to a locksmith. I would be reluctant to try brute force as that might damage the walls of the cylinder socket.
