Chrysler Repair: Instrument cluster issue:94 LeBaron, socket pins, headlamp switch

Question
When I turn on the lights the all gages on the dash go nuts. oil temp high, battery goes negate. turn signal illuminants, when i turn the switch to dim the gage lights the odometer is effected. could it be a body ground fault.

Answer
Hi Warren,
I assume you have the convetible body. I am not sure what is going on but I would suspect a short in the cluster itself, probably something related to the dash illumination wire (pin 8 of the black plug) and some other wire like the ground (pin 14 of the red connector). Also check for a short between pins 1 and 2 of the black plug and socket as those are respectively in the headlamp switch and turn signal relay input wires. You might want to check that the ground is indeed patent to the ground by testing that it shows close to 0 ohms to any body metal nearby. I would be inclined to remove the cluster and look for any problems with the plug wires themselves, the solder joints of the socket pins to the circuit board, or other suspected cracks in traces on the circuit board.
