Chrysler Repair: Engine Fault Code 11 for 1995 Chrysler Concorde, 1995 chrysler concorde, crankshaft position sensor

Question
Hi Roland,

I have been trying to figure out the answer to my dilemma for a while now and could use some help. My car died and has not started up since. It cranks but flashes code 12 11. I tried looking up these codes and got some conflicting answers. I would appreciate any help you could forward along to me.

Thanks,
Walt

Answer
Hi Walt,
The 12 code just means that sometime in the past 50-100 key cycles the battery was disconnected. It unless you are sure that didn't happen I would not be concerned about a 12 code. The 11 code is very relevant and in fact an owner of a '94 LH body car asked me the same question this morning. Here is my reply:
"Subject:  1994 Chrysler New Yorker: code 11
Question:  Bucking then stalling while doing 60 or during turns for the past 2 months, and running poorly - been to 5 mechanics including dealer - no check engine light - replaced EGR, Intake manifold gasket, battery, starter, Tranny tune up (fluid, filter, gasket),Idle air control, fuel pump.  On-off-on-off-on gave codes 12-11-55 on 4 seperate occasions

Answer:  Hi Jodie,
The key code is 11 which says that the crankshaft position sensor is not reliably getting a signal to the powertrain control module so as to time the spark. That sensor is located on the passenger side of the engine, at the very rear where the seam between the engine and transmission is located, just above the surface of the trans' differential housing. It is held in place by a single bolt. Remove the electrical plug by first gently lifting the locking tab. Then remove the bolt and slide it out of the hole. Put in the new sensor with the paper spacer still in place on its tip, push on the body of the sensor to make sure the tip touches the surface it 'senses' and hold it in that position while you secure the mounting bolt. Put on the electrical connecter. See if that doesn't solve the problem.

So that is how I would recommend you proceed.
