Chrysler Repair: Fuel Filler Tube R&R: minivan, negative battery cable, vent tube

Question
On a 2001 Grand Caravan can the Fuel Filler Tube be repaired just under where the fuel cap screws on and where, during a smoke test of the fuel system, smoke was coming out around where there is a band attached to the top of the filler tube or does the tube always need to be replaced?

Answer
Hi Dennis,
I don't know for certain about repair, I guess it would depend upon why it is leaking. In any case according to the '02 manual it is not so difficult to remove and inspect and then decide if it can be repaired. To do so
Disconnect negative battery cable clamp
Remove the three screws at the filler door
Raise and remove the wheel
Remove the splash shield
Remove the canister where it is mounted on the tube
Disconnect the vent line between the canister and the top of the vent tube at its mounting point at the top of the neck
Remove the ground strap
Remove connection of tube at tank
If you have a good idea of where the leak actually occured then you can find out whether it can be repaired.
